A unique and new experimental study is done on how your breath reveals your sexual attraction involved two dozen volunteers. The study reveals that the chemical composition of breath changes when volunteers were in a state of sexual arousal. According to scientists, love, libido, lust, and attraction to the opposite sex may very well be in the air around us. This is the first time scientists have been able to prove that your breath could reveal your sexual attraction as pure desire produces tangible signs of arousal in a person’s breath.
It may also be possible that others can attract each other due to a chemical imbalance that plays an important role in kissing, dating, and other impassioned interpersonal dynamics. Composition of Human Breathe
Inhaled air is by volume consists of 78% nitrogen, 20.95% Oxygen, and a small number of other gases including carbon dioxide, argon, neon, hydrogen, and helium. However, the exhaled air is 4% to 5% by volume of carbon dioxide, about 100 fold increase over the inhaled amount. And also mixes with some other chemicals.
What Changes in Breath During Sexual Arousal
Researchers and scientists from the University of Porto and Max Planck Institue of Chemistry took 12 Female and 12 Male Volunteers (A total of 24 volunteers) for the study.
They were hooked up to a specific and technologically advanced mask that records the chemicals in their breath at the parts per trillion level. Participants were monitored with sensors customized specifically to identify signs of arousing sexual interest.
To prove, how your breath reveals your sexual attraction; scientists then played three different types of short movie clips to the volunteers one by one. These movie clips were categorized into Sporting events, horror movie clips, and erotic movie clips.
The Effect – How Breath Could Reveal Sexual Interaction
As soon as the erotic movie clip was shown to the volunteers, there was a noticeable spike of three chemicals in the breath called Phenol, Cresol, and Indole. On other hand, there was a significant drop in the level of carbon dioxide (Co2) and other molecules like isoprene.
Moreover, these changes were seen almost immediately. Scientists mentioned that “These chemical signals could be good indicators for sexual arousal in breath”
“It’s quite remarkable because it seems to switch on and off really quickly. Most hormonal things in the body tend to happen reasonably slowly but there must be something here which is happening quite quickly.”
The new study was evident and proven that how your breath reveals your sexual attraction and may help your brain to find the best partner for you.
The results were more apparent and evident for men than women, but this may be the result of stimuli used in the study and the small size of study participants. To prove this finding further, a larger group of studies with larger follow-ups is needed to determine if there is in fact a gender divide.
The ‘Golden Questions’ Through Up
Professor Jonathan Williams is an atmospheric scientist who is more involved in recording the level of pollutants in the stratosphere or in the Amazon rainforest than in unrevealing the biological mysteries of sex.
Professor William said the “Golden Question” thrown up by the researchers and scientists is whether or not the signals play a role in human courtship.
- “What we found and established here is that there is definitely is a specific and certain signal being broadcast,” He mentioned.”
- “We have established that few chemicals are being broadcast but does it affect someone else too? We do not know yet about the fact, but at least now we know which chemical to test” it will help to take the study further to the next level.
- “We know that the human brain can respond to a chemical signal even it’s below our olfactory and smelling threshold. There are chances if you are exposed to a chemical and even if you are not able to smell it. But, your brain will react to the chemical.”
- “When we see the person and we are kissing, we hear them and we feel them, but is there any communication going on invincibly between us? That is indeed a golden question”
- “A brain-scanning equipment could expose us to these chemicals and neuroscientists can see if there is a strong reaction or any part of the brain reacts to the stimuli. That would be a nice follow-up.” Professor Williams said.
This new and unique research will prove to be a milestone in the sexual relationship and attraction between man and woman. Sexual relationship has always been discussed in a very suppressed and hidden way, but discoveries like this will bring many new dimensions and avenues to this side now.
